Kegerator

I have been thinking about adding taps on my chest freezer, and I am looking for ideas. I have seen the collar type conversion, but it seems like adding a tower on top of the chest would look better and place the taps at a more convenient height. One main difference is the decision to drill holes in the fridge, but that doesn't bother me.

I have also heard people say that having the beer lines extend outside the fridge contribute to the beer lines getting nasty.

Does anyone have any input on this?????

Hi My name is Tom, I juast moved to Rogers from Austin Tx.
I have a double tap kegerator. Several yars ago I bought a new small black refrigerator form sears and the salesman assured me that people bought this model for that use all the time. So I went to drill a hole in the top with a hole saw and sure enough the smoke changed color all of a sudden because I had puctured a refrigerant line. (now I have a nice black toolbox also) Of course sears said tht I voided the warrwnty the second I put a drill to it.
My advice start the hole from inside where there is just a plastic liner and isulation that can be cut with a knife and you can be sure to miss any lines in the top of your Refrigerator. Good luck, Brew happy

Sounds a lot like a steam box you once built, only beer sounds like a lot more fun than plastic. How are you doing? Jim

OK, you got my attention. Only one Jim comes to mind from my steam box days, but he builds ships now. Give me a clue!!!

You've got the right Jim, but I haven't got the right e-mail address for you, nor has John. Our e-mails haven't changed. Can you e-mail one of us and tell us about Rodgers? Sorry to take this blog on a detour into days-gone-bye.

My lines run out of the top of the fridge and then into a twin tap tower on my bar. The lines are exposed for maybe 5 or 6 feet and I don't have any problems with them getting gunky. The only downside is that the first few ounces of beer are warm. I usually just pour a half pint and dump it so I do waste some beer. Ash has a preety cool set up too where he has build a wooden collar that sits between the lid and the fridge...the faucets come out of the collar....never ever never drill into the side of a chest freezer as it's too easy to hit a coolant line...as Tom above found out
